Born and raised in Sheffield, England, Tim Fretwell was first introduced to electronic music in the early ’90s through pioneering acts such as The Prodigy, Altern-8, and Moby. By the mid-’90s, he had turned his hand to production, drawing influence from the deep, sultry house sounds of artists like Deep Dish. His earliest breakthrough came when Computer Music Magazine published one of his demos on their cover CD, accompanied by a glowing review. The exposure led to interest from several labels, including the emerging Climax Recordings in Northern England, who signed his tracks Where to Next? and Glide. Both releases climbed into the Balance charts Top 20 and gained support from top DJs worldwide.
Fretwell’s profile grew further when he was commissioned to remix Paul Lancaster’s Bad Girl, a deep and sensual breaks rework that caught the attention of John Digweed, who featured it on his Kiss FM show. The remix also won praise from Sander Kleinenberg and James Zabiela, leading to a direct request from Digweed for remix duties on Bedrock Records — tackling the massive Pole Folder & CP – Dust.
From there, Tim went on to remix some of the scene’s most respected names, including Steve Porter, Hyper, Momu, Pole Folder, and Bedrock themselves. His original productions also drew acclaim, beginning with Ember (Electrofly Breaks) and continuing with releases such as Faceless, Dreams Attack, Fill Me Up, and Silky Dirty on Baroque Records. These tracks received widespread international support, multiple plays on Digweed’s Kiss FM show, and airplay on BBC Radio 1. His music has also featured on television (Channel 4 UK) and appeared on high-profile compilations including Anthony Pappa’s Balance CD, Bedrock’s Layered Sounds 2, Chris Salt’s Future House, and Global Underground’s Electric Calm 2.
With a career defined by both critically acclaimed originals and standout remixes, Tim Fretwell has established himself as a producer whose deep, melodic, and forward-thinking sound continues to resonate with dance floors and tastemakers around the world.
